VELIA – PORTA ROSA

PREMISE

The Soprintendenza appointed CIBeC to provide technical-scientific consultancy for the restoration and enhancement of the ancient city walls and sacred areas in the portion of the archaeological park of Velia between Acropoli and Castelluccio, with particular reference to the conservation and enhancement of the complex of Porta Rosa.

OBJECTIVES

• Project for the conservation and enhancement of the complex of Porta Rosa
• Project of monitoring of movements of specific points on the remains of the so-called “Archaic Villa- ge”
• Project of Conservation and Enhancement of the ancient city walls between Acropoli and Castelluccio with indication of a walkway round the walls constituting a safe, easily negotiated visitors’ route
• Report on the securisation of the ancient sacred way following the detachment and collapse of some blocks

PHASES

• Analysis of situations of instability in the archaeological park of Velia
• Inspections and studies for monitoring of the area of the so-called “Archaic Village”
• Inspections and studies concerning the conservation and enhancement of the ancient city walls between Acropoli and Castelluccio
• Analysis and studies of the complex of Porta Rosa; encounter with technical staff of the Soprinten- denza to draw up the project
• Analysis of the collapse affecting the sacred way
• Formulation of an estimate (by the firm “Dolomiti Rocce”) for the interventions necessary for the conservation and securisation of the complex of Porta Rosa
