POSITANO: ROMAN VILLA LYING BENEATH CHURCH OF SANTA MARIA ASSUNTA
PREMISE
Following archaeological excavations carried out under the scientific direction of the Soprintendenza di Salerno, Avellino e Benevento as part of the Project of restoration and reuse of the Crypts underlying the Church of S. Maria Assunta in Positano, important architectonic remains came to light of a Roman villa buried in the eruption of 79 AD.
The major complexity of the excavation and disclosure of various structures induced the Comune di Posi- tano to call on the specific scientific competence of CIBeC

OBJECTIVES
- Geotechnical – structural studies prior to archaeological excavation of the Roman villa
- Elaboration of geotechnical – structural criteria for the completion of the archaeological excavation of the structures currently disclosed
- Elaboration as work progressed of a study of the variants connected with the progress of the excavation, conservation and constructive restoration of the disclosed structures
